Devices, apps, software, oh my! We are immersed into these things every single day. Sometimes, we need to just step back and marvel at the amazing technology available today.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
This Android-based phone is the offspring of the Galaxy S4. Samsung has become the go-to brand for Android users, and with good reason. The S4 boasts a sleek design, intuitive software, HD screen, phenomenal camera, and speedy processor. While the Mini features (almost) all of these specs, its reduced size also means a reduction in processing power, as well as some other features. Much of the Samsung phones are becoming almost too big for people with small hands (like me) so this phone is a step in the right direction. It is currently only available internationally with a contract but you can find it on Amazon for about $400. There are a few cons such as screen quality, hardware downgrade and lack of memory but once this phone comes to the States, there’s no doubt it will do well. Check out the review on Engadget.
Greyp G12
Is it a bicycle? A dirt bike? A motorcycle? It’s safe to say that the G12 is an astonishing piece of machinery. The electric bike can get 75 miles off of one charge and reach speeds of 40mph. And why not throw in a fingerprint scanner for security? This marvel could weigh in at $8,000 but an official price is still TBD.
Cosair Vengeance K70 Mechanical Keyboard
The ultimate gaming keyboard. The K70 is smooth and fast, with textured WASD and 1-6 Keycaps, and also allows you to customize backlighting on individual keys. This is one nice looking keyboard, but it isn’t cheap at $130 (Amazon).
Xbox 360 vs. Xbox One
The Xbox One announcement came and went with a little bit of sizzle and A LOT of uproar. While Microsoft has “fixed” some of the initial issues, the general consensus is a game of “wait-and-see.” I’m in the crowd that plans to hold on to the Xbox 360 for as long as possible. My unit is about 4 years old and Microsoft has announced that it will continue support for the 360 for another 3 years, including the release of new games. There will probably be some games – those with intense graphics – that will only be released on the One due to the upgraded hardware. The Xbox One will have Live TV support, which is truly intriguing, in my opinion. The Xbox One will be released on November 22 at $499, just in time for the Holiday season.
Automatic
This unique and amazing little device and app allows drivers to better understand their fuel economy, speed and engine diagnostics. The small dongle plugs into the diagnostic port in your car (something that’s standard on every vehicle since 1996) and tracks movements and mechanical issues by talking to your onboard computer. It uses your smartphone’s GPS and data plan for the rest. The $69.95 device actually allows you to turn off engine warning lights through the app! Automatic can give you suggestions on increasing your fuel efficiency, and can detect crashes and alert the authorities (and can automatically text your loved ones to let them know you’ve been in an accident). This is an amazing little device and I’m excited to try it for myself!
This is just the beginning of the gadgets I want to share with you so look for more in this series coming soon! We’ll also talk a little about dedicated server hosting next week.
